Artist Statement
Through dance I explore humanity and the soul. I use the body to create ethereal drawings that seep in and out of different forms to express life. My work is a combination of contemporary dance phrasing, structured improvisation, African Diaspora dance and history, Western movement styles, meditation, and somatic awareness. I develop improvisational scores about nature, and collaborate with sound and visual imagery for inspiration. I am influenced by personal experience and black feminist standpoint theory. My Caribbean culture and love of metaphysics shows up in my art. I have a goal to reveal through dance the core of human existence and to discover methods for travel into the unknown.
